 Secured UN guesthouses (on field offices) or approved hotel/Residences in Ouagadougou.

Are there any government restrictions or limitations that would adversely impact in-country medical treatment plans or medical evacuation?

The deployee should bring laptop and communication equipment. The country office will provide internet, SIM card and communication credit.

Burkina Faso faces an escalating humanitarian crisis due to prolonged conflict, forced displacement, and limited access to essential health services. Over 6.3 million people are affected, including 1.4 million women of reproductive age, and the demand for sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response is critically high.

With only 21% of GBV interventions funded, there is an urgent need for a dedicated SRH & GBV Coordinator to enhance service integration, ensure continuity of care, and strengthen humanitarian response efforts in line with UNFPA's mandate.

  • Restricted access: 37 locations are under blockade, affecting humanitarian service delivery.
  • Safety measures: Movement restrictions, secure accommodations, and regular security briefings.
 
Role Description:  Under the overall supervision of the UNFPA Burkina Faso Humanitarian Coordinator, the SRH & GBV Coordinator will lead the implementation, monitoring, and reporting on SRH and GBV activities in crisis-affected areas.

The Coordinator will work closely with State Ministries of Health, Country Health Departments, implementing partners, and UN agencies (UNHCR, UNICEF, IOM, WFP, WHO) to ensure integrated and high-quality services for vulnerable populations.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: We ask Country offices to review the list of duties and responsibilities and make appropriate amendments where necessary.
 
  • Support and assist in the development and implementation of UNFPA's sexual and reproductive health action plan in Burkina Faso.
  • Establish strong linkages between existing SRH and GBV programmes regarding the health sector response for survivors of sexual violence.
  • Identify needs and gaps in SRH/GBV service delivery and propose solutions.
  • Ensure effective liaison between UNFPA, government counterparts, humanitarian agencies, and donors.
  • Conduct needs assessments and recommend actions for improved SRH & GBV service delivery.
  • Strengthen coordination mechanisms through Working Groups and stakeholder engagement.
  • Facilitate capacity-building of health service providers in SRH and GBV response.
  • Ensure SRH & GBV data collection, analysis, and reporting for decision-making.
  • Oversee the supply chain and distribution of emergency SRH kits and GBV response materials.
  • Lead proposal development and fundraising efforts to bridge funding gaps.
  • Document best practice and approaches to addressing SRH/GBV needs and issues to improve interventions.
  • Provide regular updates on SRH and GBV issues in humanitarian areas (SitRep), and other communication products as appropriate

Qualifications and Skills Required:
 
  • Advanced university degree in public health, medicine, gender studies, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in SRH and/or GBV programming in humanitarian settings.
  • Proven expertise in Minimum Initial Service Package (MISP) implementation.
  • Strong inter-agency coordination experience.
  • Ability to develop and coordinate SRH programmes that target displaced population and their host communities.
  • The ability to work autonomously in high-pressure, complex environments.
  • Fluency in French required; English proficiency an asset.
